The “Freedom From Evil Government” Pledge
My fellow Americans,
Our rallying cries against health care have finally been heard! But let’s not go half-way! Let us follow through on our commitment to keep Uncle Sam off our lawns and porches!
We who DON’T want health care make the following 10 pledges:
BILL OF FREEDOM FROM EVIL GOVERNMENT
1. We will not use any paved roads. These have been paid for by the government.
2. We will not purchase any dairy, meat, bread or vegetables. These, too, have been subsidized by the government!
3. If our houses are on fire, we will not call the fire department. Damn you, emergency services!
4. If somebody breaks into our homes, we will not call the police.
5. We will return any unemployment money we may have received in our lifetimes. While we’re at it, we will repurchase our “clunkers” and return the cash.
6. At age 65 we will refuse Social Security and Medicare.
7. We will no longer receive mail. This, too, is a nefarious government plot to get into our lives!
8. We will refuse any public schooling. And of course we will never attend a state college.
9. We will never set foot in a park, be it local, state or national.
AND FINALLY, THIS LAST ONE IS IMPORTANT!!!
10. We will make our addresses available for a “Do Not Protect” order to the military should there ever be an attack on US soil. In fact, if there are natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes or floods, we will rebuild by ourselves.
And this is just the beginning! Soon we will refuse all medicines that have been checked and approved, foods that have been inspected for safety, or use water that comes from a tap! Don’t you flush my toilet, Uncle Sam! We will stop using public transportation! We will not purchase anything that has met safety standards, like children’s toys and soap! We will even stop watching sports played in stadiums funded with tax dollars! Be strong! There is a better life without government!
Yes, we can… return to the 12th century!
What you must do:
1. Print this out.
2. Sign it.
3. Post it visibly in your home or place of business.
4. Forward to everybody you know.
This is a great piece. Throughout this healthcare debacle we have been bombarded with an extreme anti-government, republican backlash, which has unfortunately defined the movement for this legislation. If this is apparently the work of a fringe group, as Rachel Maddow tells me, then why have they come to dominate the debate? I read your other blog post on your disappointment with President Obama, and though I too wish he would pull a little more Lyndon Johnson, we need the left-wing grassroots response to these “deathers” and town hall attendees. I remember reading about one man in a town hall meeting screaming, “Get your government hands off my Medicare!” Unfortunately this statement does not speak for itself as it is still being used against government involvement. Why did I easily find this man’s statement in the news but had to search for your piece, you who at least have some clout?
Even on the Rachel Maddow show, and on Keith Olbermann, we see only a refute to this fringe, albeit a fantastic one, though little reporting on pro-healthcare reform events and arguments. I believe those who are in favor of this bill represent a majority of Americans, though they currently have the smallest voice. Also, I find it infuriating that the same people, who want no government involvement in healthcare, want this same government to impose laws on who one can or cannot marry and what a woman can or cannot do to her body. That is where, I believe, where government should step out.
You should send this to the New Yorker.

On a completely separate note, I loved the movie Dinner Rush, which I just saw. Though very different in style, it reminds me of one of my favorite films, Big Night.
Hi, I want to make an ammendment to my previous statement. Alan Grayson, Dem from Florida is loudly fighting back, to which I applaud.
It always seems to take the democrats so much longer to get their stuff in order, but when they do they take over the House and Senate. We might still be on the right track here.
Rebecca
